The Psychology of Adornment: Wearable Sculpture <\/em>by Jesse Mathes Fragile Things<\/em> by Sarah Tenney & Jenna Annunziato
\n<\/em>Inspired by the commanding presence of Queen Elizabeth I, artist Jesse Mathes explores how wearable sculpture can both captivate and protect. This striking series draws on Elizabethan fashion, natural defense mechanisms, and architectural forms to examine boundaries, power, and beauty. The result is dramatic, large-scale adornment that challenges perceptions of vulnerability and strength.<\/p>\n
\nPainting in untraditional cut-outs, Sarah Tenney and Jenna Annunziato explore relationships with others as well as to the things with which we surround ourselves. The pairing reflects the duality between the two artists: one orbiting nostalgia in the forgotten and false divinity; the other exploring connection, conflict, and intervention. Besides the shininess, the commonalities among Annunziato\u2019s objects lie in their value, or lack thereof. Beautiful and broken objet d\u2019art are portals to memories and counterfeit faith. Tenney steps into allegory using magical realism in her gentle depictions. Animals and people interact in moments fraught with disconnection and the tenuous understanding of others.
